Hydrate yourself - Drink a Cocktail!

It is noon somewhere, however, I'm not drinking just yet. I've donned my apron and am in the kitchen creating cool, swanky cocktails for my favorite group of Democrats.

This is my inaugural post for this new blog which will be weekly musings about our Democracy in the post-Trump trauma years.

But on to the cocktails which is why you all are here.

District 2 Deep Ellum DaDa-Daquiri

  • 1 oz. Midori Melon Liqueur
  • 1 oz. rum
  • Juice of a whole lime
  • Lime wheel

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini or rocks glass then garnish with lime wheel. If you do not have Midori, use 2 oz. rum instead and add a 1/2 oz of simple syrup. However, the Midori will give the cocktail its emerald green color -- just like the Dallas skyline!

District 7 Blue Iceberg
This one is made by yours truly and is called the Blue Iceberg (to remind us always of the great snowpocalypse of 2021). I created this timely cocktail because:

  1. It contains 7-Up (for district 7)
  2. Its blue cause we're stone cold (literally) Democrats
  3. And its an iceberg because that's what we experienced for 120 hours this week

  • 1 shot Blue Curacao
  • 1/2 shot White Rum
  • 1/2 cup 7-Up
  • 1/4 cup Lime Juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a little crushed ice, mix and enjoy!

District 9 Lakeside Tropical Smash Mocktail
A perfect "mocktail" for a hot summer afternoon in Dallas.

  • Handful of fresh or frozen raspberries or other favorite berries
  • Handful of finely diced fresh mango; or use canned mango that's already diced
  • 1 mint leaf sprig
  • 1 ounce lime or lemon juice
  • Soda water, sparkling water, or seltzer
  • Ice
  • Optional:  Simple syrup or agave to taste
Muddle berries, mango and mint in a tall glass or cocktail shaker. Add lime/lemon juice, ice and optional sweetener and shake in the shaker or pour back and forth between 2 glasses to shake. Pour over ice, add a splash or two of soda water and garnish with berries and mint.

District 10 White Rock Donkey (this made me laugh out loud; I'm definitely going to try it with most of the ingredients :-)).
  • Fill a copper mug with crushed ice from White Rock Lake
  • 1/2 ounce Texas-made vodka
  • Squeeze a quarter to half a lime into the mug
  • Optional sweetener - 1/2 ounce of margarita mix
  • 4-6 oz. of ginger beer (fill to top of mug)

Then feel that White Rock Donkey KICK!

District 14 Boozy Mocha

  • 1.5 ounces vodka
  • 2 oz chocolate liquor (like Godiva, not creme de cacao)
  • 4 oz cold brew coffee
